5 Tips to Help you Start your Spring off on One Foot
As the nicer weather appears, you might find yourself feeling rather depressed instead of excited. If you sustained over the winter, you may not feel like you have much to look forward to as summer approaches. There are a few tips to help you start spring off on only one foot.
Tip#1: Enjoy What You Have
No matter how hard it is for you to get from place to place, when the weather is nice outside, you are likely to feel better. You may not be able to do all of the same activities this spring that you normally enjoy, but with fresh air, singing birds, and blooming flowers, you will have more motivation to get out and enjoy the world.
After the initial recovery process, your doctor will probably give you exercises to do to help yourself recover faster. As spring hits high gear, you can use the nicer temperatures as motivation to recover as quickly as possible. You don’t want to be on crutches all summer, do you? Let the fresh air and warmer temperatures put you in a better frame of mind for your recovery process.
Tip#3: Research Alternatives to Crutches
Crutches can certainly get you from place to place, but if you are generally more active during the spring and summer, you might want a mobility device that can keep up with what you really want to do. If your kids are going outside to play, station yourself in a lawn chair so you can watch. If your neighbors are having a grilling party, challenge yourself to making your way down the block to enjoy the camaraderie. Make sure that you listen to your body during your recovery so that you never overdo it. Use the outdoor activities to help you get out, but make sure you rest when you are tired.
Tip#5: Prepare for Summer Months
If you are far enough along in your recovery, you might be able to get rid of your mobility deviceby summer. The spring months are the perfect opportunity to prepare for that event. While you are slightly immobile, think about what you want to do during the summer and prepare. Make lists of projects to do around the house and do some of the research on paint colors, landscaping plants and other items. Once summer is ready to go, you will be able to jump on the projects you prepared.
Recovery during the warmer months is never easy, but these tips will help you enjoy your time on one foot while looking ahead to the future months.
Recently Sara Jessica Parker revealed she has permanent foot damage after years of wearing high heels. She blamed “cheap shoes” as the cause for her damage. The lower priced shoes had bottoms that were plastic and she attributed this to her multiple slips and twisting of her ankle. She is now choosing flat shoes to accommodate for her foot pain and deformities that have been diagnosed by a doctor.
Was it the long term use of heels or truly only the cheap ones that caused the issue? I would bet it was a combination of her inherited foot type, overuse of heeled shoes, many hours of contracting muscles that eventually caused issues to the foot as well as the multiple ankle sprains. It is impossible to blame one pair of shoes. Remember she is responsible for putting Manolo Blahnik on the map and we all know those are not “cheap”.
When looking for shoes as a career woman it is best to remember to change it up. If you wear a heel one day follow it by a flat the next. Don’t make every heel a stiletto but instead alter it with a wedge or chunkier type heel. The higher the heel, the greater the pressure on the front of the foot. A wedge shoe distributes your weight more evenly and offers support all the way through the foot. Materials of the sole and heel should provide cushioning and shock absorption. Avoid synthetics, a natural leather or suede insoles is more breathable and pliable, it will prevent chafing and blistering while molding to the foot. Variability in your shoes will never leave you complaining like Sara Jessica Parker that one particular shoe was your problem.
